Task 2 - Data Collection
Week 4
This week is data collection week, students need to start to collect the
data. We decided to choose the furniture idea because it is simple and
interesting to create art on furniture. Due to some reason, I was not able
to attend the group meeting. Gratefully, my teammate updated what they have
discussed in the meeting. My teammates had distribute the task, and my task
is to do the research on Penang, George Town street art. They also send me
an article (Roles of Public Art in Malaysian Urban Landscape towards Improving
Quality of Life: Between Aesthetic and Functional Value) for research.
Later on, our group have a short meeting to distribute the works:
Besides, our supervisor gave us feedback on our proposal this week.
Mr Vinod feedback: "Demonstrates some understanding of research methods, the scope is
relatively wide, but has managed to keep it focused. That being said,
rigour in research can be better and more visual research to support the
proposal would be better. Evidence of brainstorming or idea exploration is
implicit in the presentation and is adequate. Written plainly with a hint
of academic rigour and communication, stating the selected theme, concept
& approach of the research, with a single citation–less is not more.
Overall, adequately done."
Week 5
Due to Chinese New Year eve, we have a short lecturer on general feedback
and a guild on data collection. Mr Asrizal asked us to use Zoom to record
our data collection and students must record it together, not record
separately and combine it. Besides, the data collection must be answering
the questions. In addition, Mr Asrizal does not recommend students to use
surveys to collect data because the survey will be limited to collecting
data, it is better to use an interview to collect data and recode it as
evidence. Moreover, the presentation maximum duration is 10 minutes. After
preparing, we had a meeting for a presentation on Sunday(6 Feb) night.
Here's the recorded presentation and slides:

FEEDBACKS
Week 5
General Feedback: Presentation should not be more than 100MB
in size. Submission have to provide three things which are pre-recorded
presentation, presentation slides and full data collection doc. The
deadline of task 2 was delayed to 7th Feb, 5pm.

Week 6
General Feedback: -
Specific Feedback: Demonstrates decent observational and
research skills through a collection of material from different geographic
locations, using relevant tools. The data is limited to observations,
perhaps it would be good to also get reactions of people through a survey.
This might enrichen your data further. Documentation of collected materials
is written clearly with comprehensible communication skills. However, it
would be good and necessary practice to restate the RO & RQ along with
the theme at the beginning. That's said, good job in making mention of the
RO at the conclusion and also indicating how the results of the research
observations might affect the design output.
REFLECTION
In my view, there is nothing new experience in this task but we all had completed the work in the time given, none of us is left out. we don't have any conflict and we all respond in the message.
Observation
During my research, Penang is not only famous in foods but also famous in street art. Every street art in Penang has its own meaning and is also a way to express its culture and story. It has been a long time I never go to Penang. Based on what I found on the internet, Penang has created new street art, Iron caricatures which I think is beautiful. I think this idea can be used in our furniture idea.
