Exercise 1 - Quantify & Visualize Data

Week 1
In the first week of the Information Design online class, Ms. Anis briefly introduce module details and taught us what we have to do in exercise 1. We were asked to find some objects to create our own data.
There are 2 options of data, Jar of stuff and, Emergency bug out bag. I decided to choose Jar of stuff data because it looks interesting, we have to prepare physical stuff like buttons, candies, lego bricks, or coins.

1. Data
Fig. 1: Old coins collection (Week 1, 4 Jan 2022)

I have searched my room for collection items, such as cards, stationaries, accessories, and so on. The only most suitable items for this exercise I found are my old coins collections.

2. Sorted

After that, I categorized them into 3 types of coins which are the first series, second series, and a few of the new series coins we using now.

3. Arranged

Later on, I arranged all the coins neatly based on the sizes and decided to choose the first series of coins as my data because I think it is too much to use it all.

4. Presented Visually

5. Explained With A Story
As in Egypt, the pyramid symbolizes wealth and power. Thus, I arranged my coins into a pyramid shape and label them clearly on 2 sheets of A4 paper. Lastly, I create a data tabulation for coins, quantity, amount, and total it up. There are 59 coins and the total is RM11.50.

Exercise 2 - L.A.T.C.H

Week 2

I decided to choose Minecraft as my L.A.T.C.H. infographic design because I love to play Minecraft.  This is my sketches idea of what I'm going to design for my L.A.T.C.H inforgraphic. I'm going to categorize them using 4 locations and the difficulty of finding those animals.
Fig. 5: Sketches idea (Week 2, 14 Jan 2022)

My first idea is with a round shape and separates it into 4 locations and with an underground cave/ravine/mineshaft/deep slate cave and lava. However, I realized it is too much for me. Therefore, I decided to cut off those underground locations.

Fig. 6: Final outcome (Week 2, 14 Jan 2022)

There are 4 places that have their own uniqueness. For example, the desert biome has a sand block, the jungle biome is crowded with trees, the plains biome is filled with a wide-open area the snow biome consists of snow and ice block. The greater the number of stars, the higher the difficulty.

REFLECTIONS

In this exercise, I have understood the basics of infographics during completing the exercises.
Based on my learning, an infographic is to grab viewers attention and easily digest information through the use of visual data, charts, and statistics. It is quite fun of learning exercise 1 because we can use any object to create our data. Besides, I'm also enjoining creating my favourite game infographic even though it took some time to complete it. It is good to learn something is related to hobbies.
