Week 6 - Composition Theory 3: Perspective // Hands Freepik
Perspective(Week 6, 6 May 2022)
Perspective
- Representing three-dimensional objects on a two-dimensional surface
- Height, width, depth, and position in relation to each other
Construct Perspectives
- One-point perspective: To produce 3D image, draw your objects emerging from a single point on the horizon. The nearer to the vanishing point, the smaller the object. The further away the object moves from the vanishing point, the bigger it gets. It creates a sense of size and space on the screen.
- Two-point perspective: 2 vanishing points on either side of the horizon, establish two sets of overlapping perspective lines fanning out from them. It helps creates a greater sense of space in a scene and helps give objects more of a sense of dimension and places
- Three-point perspective: Bird eyes view or worm eyes view. Usually consists of two vanishing points on opposite sides of a horizon (as in two-point perspective), but with the addition of another vanishing point high above or below the horizon.
- Isometric view: For creating detailed concepts of individual buildings, it’s more beneficial to use a simple isometric view, since it allows you to clearly present three sides of your design without distorting perspective or obscuring details.
- Dynamic Application: While perspective is extremely useful and can be applied to almost any illustration or scene, it doesn’t need to be rigid or boring, and you don’t need to adhere to the perspective method in a strict way.
This week we learn some colour basic outlines and adjust the appearance:
- line tool
- pen tool
- effect\distort\zig zag
- warp tool
- outline stroke
- expand
- expand appearances
- pathfinder merge
- isolation mode
- blob tool
- draw behind
- draw inside

Week 7 - 3 Act Structure
3-Acts Structure(Week 7, 13 May 2022)
Central theme
- Major theme - An idea that is intertwined and repeated throughout the whole narrative.
- Minor theme - An idea that appears more subtly, and doesn’t necessarily repeat.
- The conflict is what drives the story. It’s what creates tension and builds suspense, which are the elements that make a story interesting.
- If not, the audience doesn't care and there also won’t be any compelling story to tell
- Central Characters - These characters are vital to the development of the story. The plot revolves around them.
- Protagonist - The main character of a story, has a clear goal to accomplish or a conflict to overcome. Although protagonists don’t always need to be admirable, they must command an emotional involvement from the audience.
- Antagonist - The opposing protagonists, standing between them and their ultimate goals. The antagonist can be presented in the form of any person, place, thing, or situation that represents a tremendous obstacle to the protagonist
Three-Acts Structure
- Setup: The world in which the protagonist exists prior to the journey. The setup usually ends with the conflict being revealed.
- Rising Tension: The series of obstacles the protagonist must overcome. Each obstacle is usually more difficult and with higher stakes than the previous one.
- Conflict: The point of highest tension, and the major decisive turning point for the protagonist.
- Resolution: The conflict’s conclusion. This is where the protagonist finally overcomes the conflict, learns to accept it, or is ultimately defeated by it. Regardless, this is where the journey ends
Week 8 - Independent Learning Week
Week 9 - Transitions & Gutters
Transitions and Gutters
Making Comics with Salgood Sam
Transitions
Scott McLoud's Transitions
- Moment to Moment - Transitions show basic movements occurring in slow motion. For example eyes open and close, spider walking, turning around & etc.
- Action to Action - Transitions show a single subject progressing through a specific movement, fast-moving. For example, drive fast and crush, drink and burp.
- Subject to Subject - Transitions stay within a specific scene or idea and call for more reader involvement. Need audience engagement.
- Scene to Scene - Transitions take place across significant distances within time and space. For example, ten years later,
- Aspect to Aspect - Unique in that it shows different aspects occurring simultaneously within the same scene.
- Non Sequitur - Provide a non-logical connection between panels.
Point of View(POV)
- Who's the point of view
- You cab tell the story from a specific character's point of view
- Emohasize one thread of the story
- or get the most salient points(most noticeablr) of the narrative down as they have been told
TASK 2: DECISIVE MOMENT
Jujutsu Kaisen, Ryoman Sukuna scenes (Week 9, 24 May 2022)
The anime characters leave an impactful image from the anime,
Jujutsu Kaizen which was trending recently. Despite the coolness
and integrity of the main protagonist, the antagonist is
actually my favourite character. Ryomen Sukuna, the main
antagonist who lived over 1000 years, is known as the King of
Curses. Sukuna is not just overpowered but also feared by both
sorcerers and cursed spirits.
Scene from the above video for background design (Week 9, 24 May 2022)
After going through all the videos and references from google
images, I try to sketch my ideas. My first idea sketch in the
below image is a 4 hands Sukuna with a huge skull background
like the last reference image found above. The second idea
sketch is a temple design background. The third traced Sukuna
character below is an idea for an animated gif how is gonna
move.
Ideas and sketches (Week 9, 25 May 2022)
Designing character, temple, sky, and eclipse background (Week 9, 25 May 2022)
Designing different types of background (Week 9, 26 May 2022)
I decided to choose the third design below because I wanted
to use back the original sky and temple with the skull from
the Sukuna video. The word above the poster "呪術廻戦" is the Japanese name of
the animation, "Jujutsu Kaisen". The Ryomen Sukuna mean “two-faced spirit” according to the JJK wiki, it is also
the name of the character. "Only the finest and precise will
dominate the world." logline is based on the personality and
objective of Sukuna.
Progress Creating Poster using Illustrator (Week 9, 26 May 2022)
When I completed my animated Gif, I found out that After
Effect could not convert from RGB to CYMK like Illustrator. I
used CYMK to make my poster and
AE is an RGB program. Therefore, my Gif looks dull and muddy
because RGB is best for websites and digital communications, while
CMYK is better for print materials.

VISUAL STUDY & HOMEWORK
Lecture report 5 - Visual Study: Perspectives
Cloister took by John Keniry
Three-point perspective
Setup: Johnny is an ambitious person, ever since he was
born, he has already been dreaming of achieving many things
such as building a mini-rocket ship, self-driving toy cart and
even voice controllable toaster. Johnny is the one in a
million talented child, with perfect grades and exceptional in
sports, he is truly elegant. However, just when he is about to
fulfil his other achievement which is winning the “Youth are
Intelligent” tournament. He found out his hard work had
utterly been copied by one of his close friends.
Conflict: Johnny has always been treating his close
friend, Hamber, as a sister but unexpectedly, she stole the
idea of Johnny. It was a solar-powered drone that could
constantly carry the charges that it received from the
sunlight and bring it back to home for usage. Johnny was
desperate and depressed but he doesn’t want to break their
friendship. Johnny had no choice but to confront her but ended
up what he received was just heartbroken provoking from
Hamber. Hamber denied the fact that she stole Johnny’s idea
and insisted the idea was originally from her experiment from
the past. Johnny was really disappointed and couldn’t do
anything in order to protect the friendship between them.
Resolution: Fortunately, few of the fellow contestants
who were once Hamber’s friends have exposed her with evidence.
Jason submitted numerous pieces of evidence that Hamber has
been copying his idea from the previous competitions to the
invigilators and host of the tournament. With the sufficient
evidence, karma has finally hit and Hamber has been
disqualified from the tournament. Johnny felt a bit of sorrow
for Hamber but yet she deserved it. Eventually, Johnny’s
invention has successfully helped him to win the tournament
and achieved his another ambition.

FEEDBACK
Week 9: Ms. Anis recommend the white outline change it to dark red.
REFLECTION
Experience, Observations & Findings:
This task is undoubtedly one of my most intense and competitive
experiences. I have utilized every information that I learned in this task
by recapping the advice from the lecturer and analyzing the lectures that
I have learned. Despite the lessons I learned from the lectures, I also
did extra effort in searching for different usage and methods of Adobe
Illustrator to create a flawless design for my poster. With the help of
multiple platforms and the information that I have gathered, I was able to
create the spectacular and intensified looks of the poster that I seek
for. As a result, I am glad to say that this task has greatly improved my
skills in designing posters and GIFs.
